Abstract
Close The Gap is a non-profit that donates computers to schools, medical, and social programs.  They are truly making a difference all around the world. In this blog we will discuss some of what this wonderful organization does and why they are considered of the leading non-profit organizations bridging the digital divide.

Close The Gap is an international non-profit organization that is on a mission to bridge the digital divide.  They donate pre-owned computers that are donated by European companies to developing and emerging countries.  Close The Gap is different from the majority of non-profits who have similar mission like OLPC.  Not only do they donate computers to schools but they also donate them to medical and social programs.
Since being founded in 2003 Close The Gap has supported more than 2,500 project all around the world.  They have 39 strategic partners that donate the majority of the computers.  Microsoft, Dell, and DHL are just a few of the biggest donors.  Close The Gap has received
They have also created a project cycle unlike most non-profits so anyone can see how Close The Gap works.  They first collect at one of the donor companies.  Then they refurbish the equipment.  After that they select which project will benefit most from the equipment.  After the project is selected the equipment is then transported and they send team members to install software and train people how to use the computers.  Every six months they follow up on the project and have an evaluation to make sure the equipment is being used properly.  They also pick up and recycle the end of life equipment.
Access to information and communication technology is essential in the developing world because it is key to improving a country’s educational and economic prospects.  Today, information is seen as on of the major drivers of economic and social development.  That is why Close The Gap is so important.  It is a wonderful non-profit and has an admirable mission.  Many people only think about schools when talking about computer donations to developing countries.  This is why Close The Gap is so important. Hospital need equipment to help save people’s lives.  Also social programs need computers to keep the country moving forward.  Without Close The Gap many people would not be receiving the medical care, education, or social help that they need to survive in a technology driven world.
